The recent SPS – Industrial Automation Fair Guangzhou, held March 7-9 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou – drew a record number of exhibitors and visitors. There were 22,189 visitors from 60 countries and regions, an increase of 14 percent, compared with last year. Chinese visitors numbered 21,312 and 877 were international visitors. Exhibitors represented 438 companies from 15 countries and regions, up 24 percent, compared with last year. When the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring) opened its doors this week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre it already was off to a good start with a record-breaking 950 exhibitors. The show, scheduled April 6-9, is in its fourth year and attracted exhibitors from not only the Chinese mainland, but also France, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States. To meet the needs of Asia’s rapidly growing medical technology manufacturing industry, Messe Dusseldorf Asia and the Singapore Precision Engineering & Tooling Association have joined forces to launch MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA, scheduled Sept. 12-14 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre. Global Sources ended 2011 with a positive Q4 revenue increase to $74 million, compared with $63 million in 2010, as well as positive increases in full-year revenues to $225 million from $197 million in 2010. In the past year, Thailand has been awarded a substantial number of bids for not only regional, but also global events to be hosted in the country, according to the Thailand Convention & Convention Bureau. These eight events are expected to generate revenues of at least Baht 900 million (US$117 million). The Hong Kong Trade and Development Council’s Hong Kong International Jewellery Show continued to draw strong attendance numbers, with the recent show attracting 38,000 buyers, a 3-percent increase, compared with last year’s event. A significant portion of the attendance increase at the event, held Feb. 16-20 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, came from the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries, with an 8-percent increase, compared with last year’s event. Global Sources bought a 80-percent stake of the China (Shenzhen) International Brand Clothing & Accessories Fair (SZIC), one of Asia’s largest fashion fairs, for US$17.3 million. Shenzhen is a base for garment designing and manufacturing in China and SZIC, which was launched in 2001, has grown since its inception.
